I am A S Murty, living in Hyderabad. I was born in Kakinada, hence my attachment with Kakinada. We are all very happy that Kakinada has been chosen to be developed as a SMART CITY and a lot of initiatives have already begun or are taking shape.
The city was in a way a well laid out city/ While the Government – both at the Centre and in the State – will do their bit for developing the SMART CITY on International lines.
The citizens must prove worthy of that special status. We must develop better civic and traffic sense. We must not spit on the roads, must not throw any garbage/rubbish on the roads. Help those who come from other cities/States with our mild manners. Every one from outside who visits Kakinada, must feel that he should have been living in this magnificent city. Let our citizens of Kakinada develop better skills in all the fields, better communications skills, best hospitality (this is already in place), etc.
Traders should charge only the reasonable amount for the goods/services. ABSOLUTELY “NO SMOKING” ON ANY ROAD AND IN PUBLIC PLACES. People should quit drinking in bars/smoking in public places etc. Reading of newspapers, magazine in both Telugu and English must become a regular habit with our brothers and sisters in Kakinada for which Libraries must be built accommodating titles in all the subjects.
Cheap comedy shows/films should make way for class movies. People should develop interest in fine arts – Sangeetham, Musical Dramas, Plays, Musical shows, etc. Do not copy the traditions of others as we are rich in our own culture and have to preserve that at all costs. Hyderabad plays HOLI which is not a big festival in E G Dist., but slowly it is becoming as we are only copying. How many households today teach their daughters to participate in Muggu competitions and play the local games.? No doubt we have to look towards the 22nd century also and every child of Kakinada must also taste the new age festivals/ customs, food, clothing etc., but we must do that fine balancing act to preserve our age old culture also.
The next time I visit Kakinada, may be in 2019 only, I would like to see a city of my dreams – fully transformed and beautiful. As of now, Kakinada is one of the finest cities, next after only Visakhapatnam in beauty in the whole of AP.
